Flood Fotos

Ain't nobody accusing The 1937 Flood of being ready for a music video. Nonetheless, we haven't completely turned our backs on photography. We rather like still pictures. For some reason, we often have folks taking pictures when we're jamming or on stage.

Or even when we're getting ready to be on the radio! At left here is a shot we got recently in Charleston at the studios of West Virginia Public Radio, where The Flood travelled to record a program on Joe's legendary "Music from the Mountains" broadcast. The band also recorded an original theme song, "Music from the Mountains Sets You Free," which the guys wrote especially for the show. Incidentally, in the picture, that's MftM's great producer, George Walker, in the headphones peeking over the neck of Charlie's guitar.

And , the guys in The Flood were very happy that the photographers were out one Saturday night last summer when the boys made some serious memories for themselves. That's when they played as the featured guests of the wonderful Huntington Symphony Orchestra at the finale of its "Picnic with the Pops" series down on the banks of the Ohio at Huntington's Harris Riverfront Park.

We've made a special photo album in Webshots, just to remember that magic evening! Click the image of the program above to reach the album -- and enjoy!

Meanwhile, the shot below is also an absolute favorite of ours.

Yes, that is Bob Wise, the governor of West Virginia, on stage in March 2002 with The 1937 Flood (or at least a quorum of the contingent. Doctor Jazz Romine was absent that evening, in Florida on a golfing emergency. Trust us -- he'll never hear the end of that).

The occasion was the 2002 edition of The Third House, the West Virginia Press Corps' annual spoof of the state government at the state cultural center in Charleston. The Flood was asked to come on and warm up the crowd before the festivities began. Spying Governor Wise in the front row and knowing him to be a dancer at heart, we, in turn, asked the chief executive to come up and join us for some lively clog dancing. Governor Bob then hung around for an little impromptu seminar on state finance and brought the house down.

For other Flood event, we've put together a general photo album, also over on the Webshots site. Click the logo here to view it. And by the way, an added advantage of letting Webshots handle the album is that you have the option to send any of the pictures in the album as an electronic postcard to friends (and sometimes former friends) elsewhere on the Web. For the love of Pete, exercise that option sparingly...

In addition to Webshots, a while back the good folks at huntingtonnews.net grabbed so on-stage pix of the guys in concert at the Renaissance, along with Shenanigans!, Second Generation and the Blain Brothers, thanks to Matt Pinson. Click the HuntingtonNews.net logo to see 'em.
